Video: How to Stop Settling for Less (part 2 of 6)



Hi, it's Jack Canfield here with another Success Principles tip for creating the life you want… And here it is:

Decide What You Want

I know it sounds so simple, but here's the problem: I see plenty of people who are overly-busy yet who feel unsatisfied and unfulfilled in their lives.

They are physically tired, spiritually drained, and they’re far from where they'd like to be—as if they've been running on a treadmill going nowhere fast. Why? Because they haven't clearly mapped out what they want and then taken the necessary steps to get there. Rather than identifying specific goals, the milestones toward the achievement of their goals, and their dreams (and I'm talking BIG dreams and goals here), they go through the motions day in and day out tackling unimportant tasks. They end guessed it...going around in circles and wasting lots of energy. In the meantime, they grow increasingly uninspired and out of touch with their authentic selves. This, of course, sets anyone up to living a life out of balance.

One of the main reasons why most people don't get what they want is they haven't decided what they want. They haven't defined their desires in clear and compelling detail.

What does success look like to you? You know, not everybody's definition of success is the same, nor should it be.

Chances are, you’re pretty clear about what you don’t want, but if you're like most people I meet and work with, you haven’t given much time and consideration to what you do want.

I’m here to tell you that in order to create what you want in your life, you must first take the time to clarify your goals, and be specific in the process. So stop settling for whatever just happens to come your way in life, and start to take ownership of the fact that you can actively participate in the creation of your ideal future by clearly stating your desires as written, measurable goals.

The bottom line is this: If you don’t really know exactly what you’re asking for, then how can you expect to get it? So it’s imperative that you take the time to decide what you really want to create in your life, write it down, and be perfect and precisely clear about it. This is one of the most important first steps to creating the life of your dreams. So take it!

Video: How to Take Control of Your Life and Results (part 1 of 6)

Success Tip #1 : Take No Less than 100% Responsibility for Your Life

One of the greatest myths that's pervasive in our culture today is that you are entitled to a "great life" and that somehow, somewhere, someone is responsible for filling our lives with continual happiness, exciting career options, a nurturing family and blissful personal relationships, simply because we exist.

But the real truth is that there is only one person responsible for the quality of your life.. and that person is you.

You see, everything about you is a result of your doing or not doing.  

Your Income. Your Debt. Your Relationships. Your Health. Your Fitness level. Your Attitudes and behaviors... everything!

That person you see when you look in the mirror is the chief architect in your life.

You know, I think everyone knows this in their hearts, but the mind can play games, tricking us into thinking that external factors are the source of our failure, our disappointment, and our unhappiness.

But the truth of the matter is that external factors don't determine how you live.

You -- and only you -- are in complete control of the quality of your life experience.

Successful people take full responsibility for the thoughts they think, the images they visualize, and the actions they take. They don't waste their time and energy on blaming and complaining. They evaluate their experiences and decide if they need to change them or not. They face the uncomfortable and they take risks in order to create the life they want to live.

Now it's time for you to reclaim your power and take control of your results.

One way to begin is by simply responding differently to the events that occur in your life. That's right... you can actually change the outcomes in your life - and get better ones -- simply by changing your responses to the challenges and opportunities that occur.

You see, you only have control over three things that you can control in your life -- the thoughts you think, the images you visualize, and the actions you take.

And how you use those three things determines everything you experience.

So, if you don't like what you are experiencing and what you are producing as results in your life, you have to change your mental, visual and behavioral response to the events that occur in your life. Remember this, nothing will change for the better until you do.
