5 Overlooked Steps on Your Path to Success

path-to-success

The path to success does not look the same for every person. However, there are milestones for success that are common on everyone's paths. These are milestones that let you know that you're on to something amazing. People often tend to make the same mistakes on their paths to success which block the road ahead.

Today I’m going to share the 5 steps many people overlook on their journey towards success.

If you feel like you’ve veered off from your plan, don’t panic! Find out what went wrong and get back on track using these clues for success.

The Clues to Success Are Right in Front of You

Students ask me all the time, “Jack, how do I know if I’m on the right path? Am I doing the things I should be doing to be successful?”

These are good questions to ask, but the fact is, the clues to success are always hiding in plain sight.

You need to be aware of how to identify them.

Recognize “Yellow Alerts”

The first way to train yourself to see these clues to success is to recognize and respond to all the yellow alerts in your life.

When I say, “yellow alerts,” what I’m talking about are the advance warnings you get. They come in the forms of telltale signs, gut instincts, intuition, and comments from others that alert you to problems and impending danger.

These signs give you time to prevent the unwanted outcome from happening.

You know when you suddenly get a “bad feeling” about something, or you become aware that people are acting differently around you? Or you develop a niggling awareness that there’s something you’re ignoring or overlooking?

THOSE are yellow alerts.

Trust Your Gut

The faster you’re able to recognize and respond to yellow alerts, the easier you’ll be able to avoid obstacles, overcome challenges, and reach higher levels of success.

The 5 Overlooked Steps on the Path to Success

Now that we’ve identified how to recognize yellow alerts, let’s talk about what those missed steps might be and how to correct them to get back on your accelerated path to success.

Step 1: Face Problems Head On

The first step you might be missing is that you’re not facing a problem head-on.

Many people choose to ignore yellow alerts because they don’t want to feel any sort of discomfort. Acknowledging and responding to yellow alerts usually involves doing things you would rather not do – such as...

Having an awkward or difficult conversation with someone.  Admitting that you made a mistake or that something isn’t working. Taking the time to have that mole on your shoulder checked out by a doctor. Or taking your car to the mechanic to check out that noise in the engine that doesn’t sound right.

Be Willing to Ask a Challenging Question

You pretend not to see the yellow alerts. Maybe because it’s easier, more convenient, or less uncomfortable. Ignoring them protects you from having to take what feels like a risk.

Successful people, on the other hand, face problems head on.

They’re willing to experience being uncomfortable, ask a challenging question, ask for feedback, or have a difficult conversation.

They know that yellow alerts are signals that if ignored, often develop into much bigger problems that can fester and grow into huge roadblocks that can prevent you from moving forward toward your goals.

Step 2: Respond to Problems QuicklyPower_Of_Believing_Webcast_Blog_Sidebar_250x300

The second step you might be missing is that you aren’t responding quickly when a problem arises.

When you develop the habit of responding quickly and decisively to yellow alerts as they happen, life becomes easier. You’re able to eliminate problems before they occur and achieve greater levels of success much faster.

But, learning how to recognize and respond to yellow alerts isn’t always easy.

It requires awareness, dedicated discipline, and a willingness to experiment and take risks.

You have to prepare to look at your own shortcomings and be willing to hear uncomfortable truths. It’s only when you face what isn’t working that you’re able to explore better options. You can come up with a better way of getting the results you want.

Step 3: Take Responsibility For Your Life

The third step you might be missing on the path to success is that you aren’t taking 100% responsibility for your life and your results.

We both know that there is only one person responsible for the quality of the life you are living.

And that person is you!

Everything you are experiencing is a result of your doing or not doing; your income, your debt, your relationships. Your health and your level of fitness. Even your happiness or lack of happiness.

Create the Life YOU Want to Live

If you’ve been ignoring the yellow alerts in your life, take responsibility for that. And if you’ve been dragging your feet about taking action on those yellow alerts, take responsibility for that too.

It’s only you that you are scaring by imagining negative outcomes instead of positive outcomes by taking those actions.

Successful people take full responsibility for their thoughts, images, and actions. They don't waste their time and energy blaming and complaining.

Instead, they evaluate their experiences and decide if they need to change them or not. Successful people face the uncomfortable and take the necessary actions to create the life they want to live.

Steps 4 & 5: Believe It’s Possible & Believe in Yourself

The next steps you might be missing are that you don’t believe it’s possible and you don’t believe in yourself.

If you are going to be successful in creating the life of your dreams, you have to believe that YOU are capable of making them happen.

Whether you call it self-esteem, self-confidence, or self-assurance, it is a strong belief that you have what it takes. You have the abilities, inner resources, and talents to create your desired results.

You have to choose to have an unwavering faith in yourself. Make the decision to embrace the belief that you create all your experiences—both the good and the bad. You will experience successes. However, you will also experience pain, struggle, suffering, and strife thanks to you.

Obstacles Are Part of the Process

I know that sounds a little strange, but accepting this level of responsibility is the only true path to success and in turn, personal power. It means you can do, change, and be anything you want.

Stumbling blocks become little hills to hop over.

There will always be obstacles to overcome. They are there to test your commitment and to require you to get better to overcome them. They are there to help you grow.

Accepting that you have the power to create change and overcome obstacles is just a big a part of the puzzle as learning how to be successful.

Resisting a Goal is Resisting Your Growth

Every resistance to your goals is an assistance to your growth. And your growth – the achievement of personal mastery – is the ultimate goal in life.

Make a commitment to replace complaints with positive, encouraging language. Examine the things you complain about and do something about them.

Take Action TODAY!

Remember to take a deep breath, and trust that gut feeling. Once you are able to recognize the warning signs, you can eliminate obstacles from impeding your path to success. Make the choice to believe in yourself and what you are doing. In the end, the “hurdles” you have faced will seem minuscule compared to your achievements.

Keeping these 5 overlooked steps in mind, I want to leave you with a bit of homework to complete. Write down 2 yellow alerts you have been ignoring or 2 obstacles you are currently confronted with. Write down 2 ways you can begin taking action on them TODAY.

Hold yourself accountable and leave a comment below with the 2 solutions you plan on implementing. I’ll follow up with you guys to make sure you’re staying on track!

3 Reasons That Could Be Keeping You From Becoming Wealthy

becoming-wealthyMany people try to find a big break or the secret to becoming wealthy. The internet is full of “How to Get Rich Fast” articles, but your paycheck remains the same.

Sadly, there is no quick and easy route to making it big. Attaining wealth takes time, patience, and the know-how.

Here are three reasons that could be keeping you from becoming wealthy…

1. Replace Negative Beliefs About Money

Like everything I’ve said about transforming your life, financial success also starts in your mind.

So first, you’ll have a hard time becoming wealthy if you don’t surface, identify, root out, and replace any negative or limiting beliefs you have about money.

Things like:

  • "Money doesn’t grow on trees."
  • "You have to have money to make money."
  • "Money is the root of all evil."
  • "You can’t buy happiness."

Include Money In Your Daily Affirmations

These beliefs are subconsciously putting out the wrong vibrations. They conflict with your conscious intentions of becoming wealthy. Tackle these beliefs and turn them into positive turnaround statements like:

"When it comes to me, money is the root of love, joy, and good works."

And remember to include money into your daily visualizations and affirmations.

Visualize all your financial goals as already accomplished. See your desired paychecks, rent checks, bank statements, stock reports, and real estate portfolios. Feel the feelings you think you would feel when each of these becomes a reality.

Learn more about daily affirmations here.

2. Start Spending Less

The second reason becoming wealthy is hard for you is you’re not spending less.

Spending too much keeps you in debt, prevents you from saving, and focuses you on consumption.

Try this: Go through every closet, drawer, and cabinet in your house and take out everything you haven’t used in the past year.

I’ve encountered people who found expensive clothes and equipment with the tags still attached, literally used once.

Add up the cost of these items, and you’ll probably find that the total is more than your current credit card debt.

Pay Cash For Everything

To get yourself to spend less, I am going to suggest – except for things like your car or your home - paying cash for everything.

It’s immediate and it makes you think about what you’re buying. Since it’s tangible and visible, you’ll start to consider every purchase much more carefully.

Have the Lifestyle You Want For Less

Also, try living the lifestyle you want, but paying a whole lot less for it.

Try to buy things on sale. Ask for deals. Research the lowest price on the internet. Buy designer clothes at vintage shops and so on.

I know many people who do this to maintain an aggressive saving and investment program - and most success coaches will agree, too!

3. Pay Yourself First

Lastly, before you pay your debt and for the lifestyle you want, you’ll never become wealthy if you don’t pay yourself first.

There’s a book written in 1926 by money leader, George Classon called, The Richest Man in Babylon, which said the first principle of creating wealth is: “A part of all you earn must be yours to keep.”

Start by putting at least 10% of all your earnings aside. Make that money inaccessible for expenses and you’ll see this amount build over time. In turn, it will start earning money on its own.

Live on What’s Left

The world’s most aggressive savers make investing money as important as paying their debt. Get in the habit of immediately putting a predetermined percentage of your paycheck in a savings account.

This will save you some money every month. Do not allow yourself to touch it. Keep adding to that account until you’ve saved enough to move it into a mutual fund or bond account.

You can even invest it somewhere else.

Pay yourself first, then live on what’s left. Trust me, this will force you to find ways to earn more money to afford things you want to buy or do.

You can also use a vision board to stay focused on your goals and attract the resources and opportunities you need to achieve them!

Create New Money Habits

If any of the three reasons I provided resonated with you, it is clear why you are not becoming wealthy. There is no quick fix, but putting in the work and making slight adjustments to your money habits will pay off. You have the power to transform your life. It all starts in your mind.

Here is your homework: if you’re doing some of the things I’ve listed that are hindering you from creating wealth, work on creating a new money habit. Use one of my suggestions.

How To Find Your Soulmate Using the Law of Attraction

how-to-find-your-soulmate-using-the-law-of-attraction

There is something to be said about the power of positive thinking.

The basic definition of the Law of Attraction states: "What you think about, you attract."

Positive thoughts have the power to transform our lives for the better, especially our love lives. Today I want to share a simple technique that focuses on using the Law of Attraction to find your soulmate.

How to Find Your Soulmate By Focusing On What You Want

In our romantic relationships, we tend to focus on the things we don’t want in a partner rather than the things we do.

Give deep thought to what you want to create in your life. Consider the relationships in your life and focus on what you do want, not what you don’t.

Get in touch with your inner truth, your authentic dreams, your goals, and your heartfelt desires. Honor these and own them without fear, shame, or inhibition.

Define Your Dreams

Your dreams and desires are not subject to anyone else’s approval.

They are yours and yours alone, but you have to define them to achieve them.

Your dreams and aspirations should serve to ignite the passion within you. This passion will not only inspire you to achieve them, but will also send a positive vibrational frequency out into the world.

Through the Law of Attraction, the universe will respond accordingly.

Learn to Activate The Law of Attraction, Achieve All of Your Goals, and Find Happiness.

Make an “Ideal Relationship” List

One effective way to activate the Law of Attraction in your love life is to create a dream list of your ideal relationship. Your dream list will be a comprehensive overview of your dreams, goals, and desires. It will represent what you want to be, do, have, and achieve in all areas of your life including relationships. Here are the steps to make an ideal relationship list:

1. Create a T-Chart for Your Ideal Relationship

The first technique is the creation of “T-chart.” This type of chart is a very effective way to identify what you do want in your life by looking at the things you don’t want in a soulmate.

Start by drawing a line down the middle of a sheet of paper. Label the left column “What I don’t want.” and the right column “What I do want.”

For instance, within the relationship category of your life, you may want to focus on a topic such as “My Ideal Romantic Relationship.” Start by writing down what you don’t want in one column. Then in the other column, turn it around into an opposite statement, saying what it is that you do want.

2. Cross Off the "Don't Want" List

Begin to fill out your T-chart. If you don’t want a partner who smokes, write that down on the left. Then write the opposite of that on the right side: a partner who lives a healthy lifestyle. If you want a partner who enjoys an active outdoor lifestyle, write that down on the right.

When you have completed your list, go back and cross off the “don’t want” list on the left side of your chart.

From now on, use the right side of each list and stay focused on what you do want in your life. There is no need to give any further attention or energy to the list of what you don’t want.

By the way, the simple act of crossing out what you don’t want is empowering, and it feels good!

Realize What You Want in a Soulmate

Completing this exercise will help activate the Law of Attraction in the relationship area of your life. Completing this also helps you to realize what you want in an ideal partner.

I suggest completing your own “T” chart for the relationships that you want to attract in your life.

Remember to remain focused on what kind of person you do want in your life, rather than on the person you don’t. Once you release your positive thoughts into the universe, you give it the power to transform your dream mate into a soulmate.

Conclusion

Was it easy or was it difficult to construct this dream list? Why? Let me know in the comments, and I’ll be sure to follow up with you.

Positive thoughts have a wonderful way of not only shaping our love lives but every aspect of our lives. To fully utilize the Law of Attraction in your life, you have to become a vibrational match with whatever it is you want to attract into your life. This means creating and maintaining an emotional state that matches the one you will experience when you actually get the thing you are focusing on. You can do this by appreciating what you already have, and continually finding more and more things to be grateful for.

I've written a short FREE guide to help activate the Law of Attraction in YOUR life.

How to Be Successful When Success Comes Slowly

Learning how to be successful in life can be slow a slow process. Sometimes it can make you feel frustrated at sluggish progress in your success journey - despite all the know-how and principles you rigorously employ.

students learn how to be successful when success is slow
Can success be sped up? Is there an antidote to slow outcomes despite arduous planning and actions taken? What's the secret for seeing huge results right now?

Let's get one thing straight…

When we admire someone's success, or even our own, we often focus on the end result and not so much on the effort (and time) that it took to become successful. This can cultivate unrealistic expectations, especially the idea that overnight success can happen through careful strategy and an execution of sound advice.

How to be Successful By Focusing on What IS Working

The truth be told, success typically follows a series of little events and achievements that can seem to take an eternity, that include a few disappointments along the way, and that challenge everything about you to the core - your stamina, courage, integrity, and even your willingness to keep going.

If you focus on what's not working, guess what: You're likely coming from a place of aggravation as your mind wraps around all that is wrong.

You may even have negative thoughts like, "I'm not good enough," "It will never work," or "Something must be wrong with me."

What this mentally does is engender more of these counter-productive feelings. You attract what you are feeling. So, negative experiences, people, and results will beget more negative experience, people, and results.

There's not much success in that.

The key in learning how to be successful then, is to focus on what IS working.

Practice Journaling and Meditation

In order to focus on what is working, I recommend two simple practices: journaling and meditation.

Maintaining a journal or as I like to call it, a gratitude journal is a great way to steer your attention to the positive and continually renew your vision for yourself.

Start each day with reflections on what you are grateful for in your life (list them out!) and end each day with notes on what went right (again, write them down) however small they may seem.

Spend time each day in quiet contemplation, prayer or meditation.

Learning how to meditate can be a powerful tool for arriving at solutions to problems and shifting your attitude so you can attract success sooner rather than later.

The magic of meditation is it’s ability to essentially shut down the outer layer of your judgmental, highly-critical brain and allow your unconscious mind to take over. This is where you enter a deeper state of inner peace and joy, tapping into a higher level of creativity that will help usher in the results you want.

(If you’re new to meditation or if you’ve struggled when meditating on your own I've written a post to teach beginners how to meditate.)

Are You Taking Real Action?

Let's say you're doing ALL these things, but you still aren't happy with your success...

I'll ask you then, are you taking real ACTION?

Learning how to be successful can be pointless if it's not followed by action.

You may be taking the actions you are used to taking. But, if you keep doing what you've already done, then you'll keep getting what you've always gotten. It's a matter of practicing some new behaviors. Shake things up a bit and see if you can take new actions or modify existing ones.

Every day do five specific things that take you toward your goal. Change up the five actions regularly and be open to feedback so you know when you're off course.

Success Takes Patience

Lastly, I want to remind you about patience.

It's natural to underestimate how long a certain goal can take, especially a profound one. When I set a goal to become a millionaire the year was 1983.

How long did it take? Eleven years. It took time for Chicken Soup for the Soul to hit the bestseller lists. You could say our tenure on the New York Times list was more than a decade in the making.

That's a lot of patience for someone who initially wanted overnight success.

Continue to Take Action

So, yes, patience is a virtue. But, keep at it, and in no time, you'll be only one week, or one day away from your ultimate success.

Remember... be grateful, reflect on what IS working and continue to take ACTION!

I want to leave you with a bit of homework to complete. Resolve to start a gratitude journal to begin steering your attention to the positive and continually renew your vision for yourself.

5 Powerful Strategies to Help You Achieve Any Goal

If you've been working toward becoming successful for a while, then it’s probably time to revisit your intentions and take stock of what you’ve accomplished so far.

Think back to a few months ago... What were the main goals or intentions you set for yourself or your business? How many have you crossed off the list or made significant progress toward achieving?

If you’re falling behind schedule or finding it hard to stay focused on your big goals, here are five of my most powerful Success Principles to help you recharge your motivation and sense of purpose – and move closer to achieving success with every action and decision you make.

Consider it a spring tune-up for your intentions!

 1. Practice Persistence While Trying to Become Successful

What’s the one common attribute high achievers share above anything else? PERSISTENCE. When they have a goal, they simply refuse to give up until they reach it – no matter what roadblocks life throws in their way.

Consider the story of Admiral Robert Peary, who attempted to reach the North Pole seven times before he finally succeeded on try number eight. Or screenwriter Craig Borten, who wrote the screenplay for Dallas Buyers Club in 1992 and struggled for 20 years to get his script turned into a movie – which became a huge success and won numerous awards, including the Oscar for best original screenplay.

You can read about them and many other ordinary people who have persevered to achieve extraordinary success in The Success Principles, Chapter 22: Practice Persistence. I encourage you to review this chapter so you can learn from their examples and be inspired by their stories. It’s a great way to reignite your own motivation!

2. Face What Isn’t Working

If you are going to become more successful, you have to get out of denial and face isn’t working in your life. Are your goals simply too big to accomplish in the time you have available? Are you lacking some essential skills required to achieve them? Are you in denial about the amount of support you need?

Successful people face these circumstances squarely, heed the warning signs, and take appropriate action, no matter how uncomfortable or challenging it might be.

Do you need to talk to someone? Ask someone for help? Find a new resource? Read a book? Call an expert? Make a plan to fix it?

Choose one action you can take and then do it. Then keep taking another action and another action until you get the situation resolved.

3. Transcend Your Limiting Beliefs

Sometimes the biggest reason we don’t move forward is because deep down we don’t think we’re actually capable of achieving or goals – or deserving of the success we long for.

If you have limiting beliefs or negative thoughts holding you back from reaching your goals, take some time to identify what these thoughts and beliefs are and then transform them into an empowering belief using these four steps:

  1. Write down the negative belief
  2. Describe how the belief limits you
  3. Decide how you would rather be, act, or feel
  4. Create a turnaround statement that affirms your right to be, act, or feel this new way.

For example...

Limiting belief: I have to do everything by myself. Asking for help is a sign of weakness.

Turnaround statement: It’s okay to ask for help. I am worthy or receiving all the support I need – and I know it will help me reach my goals faster.

4. Stay Motivated with the Masters

Motivation comes from within – but sometimes you need an external nudge to push you forward in the right direction. That’s why I’m a firm believer in reading, watching, or listening to something that motivates you every day – even if it’s only for 15 minutes. If you're serious about learning how to be successful, then incorporating this into your routine is essential.

Whether you’re commuting by car or train, riding your bike, going for a run, or simply find yourself with a few minutes in front of the computer, listening to audio or video recordings can give you the edge you need to excel in virtually any area of your life. You can keep yourself motivated, learn a language, learn management skills, learn sales and marketing strategies, learn better communication, learn about holistic health and more.

By devoting more time to developing success-oriented thoughts and attitudes, you are guaranteed to reach your goals faster.

5. Take BOLD actions to get BIG results

When you start a new project, take on a new venture, or put yourself out there, there is usually some fear. Unfortunately, most people let fear stop them from taking the necessary steps to achieve their dreams.

Successful people, on the other hand, feel the fear along with the rest of us but don’t let it keep them from doing anything they want to do – or have to do. They understand that fear is something to be acknowledged, experienced, and taken along for the ride. And they challenge themselves to take bold action, trusting that they have what it takes to handle the outcome.

That’s why I dare you to think big – and act bigger. By taking a leap of faith in the face of fear, you can transform your life.

Two Things You Can Do Right Now to Catapult Yourself Toward Success

One way you could take a huge leap forward would be to sign up for my five-day personal transformation event, Breakthrough to Success. It’s the fastest guaranteed way to get clear on what you really want, breakthrough any fears, and create an achievable road plan that will launch yourself toward the life you’ve always wanted.

5 Habits of Successful People

habits of successful people

The most successful people in the world did not arrive there by accident. Truly successful people, whether they are millionaires or have just found their true life purpose and get to enjoy living it every day, are in that position for a specific reason: their habits.

You can work, and work, and work at becoming successful until you are completely burned out. But if you don’t develop the specific daily habits of successful people, it’s unlikely you’ll ever get there.

I’m going to share 5 of these successful habits, and I hope you’ll consider integrating them into your life.

1) Successful People Believe in Themselves

If you’re going to be successful in creating the life of your dreams, you have to believe that you are capable of making it happen. Believing in yourself is a choice.

Of the hundreds of super successful people I have interviewed throughout my career, almost every one of them told me, “I was not the most gifted or talented person in my field, but I chose to believe anything was possible. I studied, practiced, and worked harder than the others, and that’s how I got to where I am.”

Successful people assume in favor of themselves and act as if achieving their goals is completely possible.

2) They Set Goals

Experts on the science of success have revealed that the brain is a goal-setting organism. And successful people know that if they give a goal to their subconscious mind, it will work night and day to achieve it. They set high goals that are both realistic and measurable, and they make an effort to work towards those goals every day.

3) They Go the Extra Mile

Successful people know that if they want to really excel in business, school, and life, they have to go the extra mile. They give the people around them -- their customers, team, family -- more than is expected and, in return, they’re handsomely rewarded with loyalty, referrals, opportunity, and money.

They don’t focus on the “What’s In It For Me” policy. They don’t put stock in whether something is fair or whether they’ll be compensated or recognized for more effort. Instead, they focus on exceeding expectation, paying extra attention to detail, and providing quality work above all else.

4) They Take Action

Successful people know that the world doesn’t pay you for what you know; it pays you for what you do. They make a point to create a vision, set goals, break them down into small steps, visualize and affirm their success, believe in themselves, and then get out there and go for it. They are keenly aware of the fact that nothing happens until they take action.

When you take action, you trigger all kinds of things that will inevitably carry you to success. You begin to learn things from your experiences that cannot be learned from listening to others or from reading books. And you begin to attract others who will support and encourage you.

5) They Practice Appreciation

Successful people know that when they show appreciation to the people in their lives -- such as their employees, loved ones, or colleagues -- they not only make those people feel better, but they themselves feel better and more successful. This is one of the biggest factors in how people become successful.

The fact is, people are more likely to help you achieve your goals if they believe that you appreciate their efforts. There is no downside to this. Appreciation costs nothing, and no one has ever complained about being over-appreciated.

Keeping these 5 habits in mind, I want to leave you with a bit of homework to complete. Write down 2 of the habits that I listed above that you feel you can -- and should -- incorporate into your day-to-day life.

To hold yourself accountable, leave a comment below with the habits you plan on adopting. I’ll follow up with you to make sure you’re staying on track!

Making Way for Success Through Task Completion

a completed puzzle through task completion

Do you live in a state of mental and physical clutter? Do you have a bunch of unfinished business lurking around every corner?

Incomplete projects, unfinished business, and piles of cluttered messes can weigh you down and take away from the energy you have to move forward toward your goals.

When you don't complete tasks, you can't be fully prepared to move into the present, let alone your new future.

How Unfinished Business Holds You Back

When your brain is keeping track of all the unfinished business you still have at hand, you simply can't be effective in embracing new tasks that are in line with your vision.

Old incompletes can show up in your life in lots of different ways...  like not having clarity, procrastination, emotional energy blocks and even illness. Blocked energy is wasted, and a build up of that energy can really leave you stymied.

Throw out all the clutter and FEEL how much easier it is to think!

Get Ready To Transform Yourself For Success One Day At A Time With My 12-Month Success Planner

Make a List of Your Messes and Deal With Them

Make a list of areas in your life (both personal and professional) where you have incompletes and messes, then develop a plan to deal with them once and for all. Fix and organize the things that annoy you.

Take your final steps in bringing closure to outstanding projects.

  • Make that difficult phone call.
  • Delegate time-wasting tasks that you've let build up.
  • Some incompletions come from simply not having adequate systems, knowledge, or expertise for handling these tasks.

Does Work Have You Stressed Out?

a stressed out man who needs to focus on task completion

At work, incompletions pile up because of bad work habits.

Get into task completion consciousness by continually asking yourself: What does it take to actually get this task completed?

Only then can you begin to consciously take that next step of filing completed documents, mailing in the forms required, or reporting back to your boss that the project has been completed.

The truth is that 20 things completed have more power than 50 things that are half-way completed.

Finishing writing a book, for instance, that can go out and influence the world is better than 13 books you’re in the process of writing.

When you free yourself from the mental burden of incompletes and messes, you'll be AMAZED at how quickly the things you do want in life arrive

Let Go of Pain and Resentment

Another area where you'll find incompletes in your life is in your emotions. Are you holding on to old hurts, resentments, and pain? Just like the physical clutter and incompletes, your energy is being drained by holding on to and reliving past pain and anger.

Remember, you'll attract whatever feelings you're experiencing. So, if you're stuck in revengeful thinking and angered in muck, you can't possibly be directing energy toward a positive future. You need to let go of the past in order to embrace the future. Letting go involves forgiveness and moving on.

By forgiving, you aren't releasing the other person from their transgression as much as you're freeing yourself from their transgression. You don't have to condone their behavior, trust them, or even maintain a relationship with them. However, you DO have to free yourself from the anger, from the pain, and from the resentment once and for all!

When Learning to Forgive, Complete the Cycle

Acknowledge your anger, your pain, and your fear. But also own up to any part you've played in allowing it to happen or continue. Make sure to express whatever it was that you wanted from that person, and then see the whole event from the other's point of view. Allow yourself to wonder what that person was going through and what kind of needs he/she was trying to fulfill at the time.

Finally, let go and move on. Every time you go through this process you're learning how to avoid letting it happen again!

Take the time to gather all of your incompletes, make a list and complete those tasks! After that you can tackle planning and setting goals for the year with my 12-Month Success Planner.

Why You Shouldn't Set New Year's Resolutions

I know a lot of people wait until the start of the year to think about their goals, but I want to talk about why you shouldn’t be so quick to make New Year’s resolutions. There’s a better way to reach your goals...

why-you-shouldnt-set-new-years-resolutionsIf you don’t set goals for yourself, you will most likely end up wandering aimlessly without making any real progress toward changing your circumstances in the way you’d hope.

January is the time most people set goals full of enthusiasm and optimism. But, as you’ve probably witnessed time and time again, most people lose that momentum and ultimately abandon their New Year’s resolutions as fast as they’ve made them.

That’s because New Year’s resolutions don’t necessarily allow you to properly set your goals, make you map out a step-by-step plan for achieving them, or give you a system for keeping track of your progress.

The Problem With New Year's Resolutions

You see, the problem with most New Year’s resolutions is they’re just a want, a wish, a vague idea — there’s no hard deadline or specificity to the goal. It’s something that you’re vaguely putting out in the universe. But the universe rewards those who are specific. The fact is that vague goals produce vague results.

I read a recent statistic that only 3% of the population actually writes down specific, measurable goals...

And correlated with that, 3% of the world’s population owns 97% of the world’s resources. So it’s safe to say that goal setters who are specific about what they want and what they are willing to do to create it are high achievers.

How to Set Goals

One of the best ways to give your goals clarity and specificity is to write them down as if you’re writing specs for a work order — include every possible detail. If you want a car, write down the make, model, color, year, and features.

Make sure they meet two main criteria: How much and by when.

Instead of saying, “I will lose 10 pounds,” say, “I will weigh 135 pounds by 5:00 pm on June 30th.”

Being this specific unleashes the power of your subconscious mind. It has something to grasp as opposed to most New Year’s resolutions that have a vague deadline of “sometime this year,” which doesn’t give you the same push as 5:00 pm on June 30th.

Here’s something else to consider, that 3% of high-achieving goal setters I was talking about earlier also harness visualization and affirmations to engage their subconscious mind by letting their mind’s eye envision their goal as already completed.

This creates something called structural tension (a conflict between what is and what is wanted) in our subconscious mind – a tension between what we’re visualizing and our present reality. And our minds are goal-seeking organisms that will work night and day to close that gap, activating our subconscious creative powers to process and filter information differently.

Meaning, you’ll start being more aware of anything that can help you achieve your goal, it’ll tune in to any activity, relationship, and group that can get you closer to the life you’re trying to create.

How to Overcome Fears and Roadblocks in Goal-Setting

Making a New Year’s resolution also doesn’t really properly prepare you for overcoming fears and roadblocks.

If someone makes a vague resolution to start running daily, they’ll probably get thoughts like, “I could get hurt” or “I’ll have to wake up two hours earlier every day before work,” which will turn them off and have second thoughts of whether or not they really want to do it.

These considerations, fears, and roadblocks are going to be a part of your journey. In fact, if they don’t come up, your goal isn’t big enough to stretch you. The key is to know that they are normal, and to not let them stop you. It’s part of the process.

Don't Wait to Set Goals

Research also shows that if you repeat a behavior for 13 weeks, like learning how to meditate and meditating 20 minutes a day, reviewing your goals twice a day, or writing thank-you letters to clients, it’ll stick for life.

Working diligently on building or changing one new habit every quarter won’t overwhelm you like an unrealistic list of New Year’s resolutions or underestimate what you can actually do.

So just pick one new habit a quarter rather making a long list of all the things you are going to try to do. This is a much better strategy for success.

I want you to start with just one, big, realistic, specific goal. Write it down and review it constantly. Then I want you to make sure you do something every day that moves you closer to achieving it.

Tell me what your goal is by leaving a comment below.

The Key to Wealth: Pay Yourself First

Many people spend a lot of time trying to discover the key to wealth, or how to become rich.

key-to-wealth-pay-yourself-first

“Don’t save what is left after spending, spend what is left after saving.” - Warren Buffett

In 1926, George Clason wrote a book called The Richest Man in Babylon — one of the greatest success classics of all time. It’s the fabled story of a man named Arkad, a simple scribe who convinces his client, a money lender, to teach him the secrets of money.

Becoming rich begins with a few simple rules...

Pay Yourself First

The first principle the money lender teaches Arkad is: “A part of all you earn must be yours to keep.”

He goes on to explain that by first putting aside at least 10% of his earnings — and making that money inaccessible for expenses — Arkad would see this amount build over time and, in turn, start earning money on its own.

Over an even longer time, it would grow into a lot of money, because of the power of compound interest.

Harness The Power of Compound Interest

If you’ve never heard that term before, compound interest is what happens when you earn interest on your savings, and -- when left in the savings account -- that interest begins to earn interest of its own. Given enough time, the earning power of that interest compounding on itself will eventually turn a small amount of money into a fortune.

Compound interest is one of the key reasons why paying yourself first – and starting early in life -- is so essential if you want to accumulate wealth. We’ll talk more about that in a second.

Learn How to Invest

Now, the world’s most aggressive savers pay themselves first and make investing money as central a part of their money management as they do paying their mortgage.

To get in the habit of saving some money every month, immediately take a predetermined percentage of your paycheck and put it in a savings account that you don’t allow yourself to touch. Keep building that account until you’ve saved enough to move it into a mutual fund or bond account or to invest it somewhere else.

Investing just 10% to 15% of your income will help you eventually amass a fortune. Pay yourself first, then live on what is left.

This will do two things:

  1. It will force you to start building your fortune and
  2. If you still want to buy more or do more, it will force you to find ways to earn more money to afford it.

Never Dip into Your Savings to Fund a Bigger Lifestyle

Never dip into your savings to fund your bigger lifestyle. You want your investments to grow to the point that you could live off of the compound interest that accumulates, if necessary. Only then will you be truly financially independent.

Start Paying Yourself First Today

Keeping this idea of paying yourself first in mind, I want to leave you with a bit of homework to complete after you’re done watching this video. Calculate what 10% of your income is, and commit to saving that much -- no matter what!

To hold yourself accountable, leave a comment below with the most important thing you could start saving for. Is it your retirement? The ability to eventually quit your job and start a charity? Or maybe you need financial independence in order to start a brand new career doing work that you’re passionate about. I’ll follow up with you to make sure you’re staying on track!

Paying yourself first doesn’t have to stop with money. Learn how self-improvement and learning will pay dividends in your life. By improving yourself, you’ll attract more and more success into your life. You can begin to improve yourself by beginning to include positive affirmations in your life. They are the foundation for all self-improvement and positive thinking.

Take Control of Your Habits and Discover How Powerful You Really Are

The reality is that you – and the life you lead today – are the result of your habits. Changing habits can seem difficult to accomplish at first, but success is a result of your habits.

Breaking bad habits

“Your beliefs become your thoughts,
Your thoughts become your words,
Your words become your actions,
Your actions become your habits,
Your habits become your values,
Your values become your destiny.”

― Mahatma Gandhi

If you think about it, you’re living out your habits every day. From how early you get out of bed, to your morning routine, how you dress, walk, exercise, interact with others and even what you habitually think about and how you respond to the world.

These habits got you to where you are today...

The fact is that habits are necessary. They free up your mind so you can concentrate on how to survive day to day. For instance, you don't have to think about how to drive your car – which allows you instead to be on the lookout for danger while you're driving.

Unfortunately, habits can also keep you locked in self-destructive patterns, which limit your success. Becoming successful is a result of changing habits. You’ll need to eliminate bad habits and develop new ones that are in alignment with the life you want to live.

The life you want to live won’t just materialize one day... your habits determine your outcomes!

What is Keeping You From Achieving Your Goals?

What are the habits that you live with every day that are keeping you from achieving your goals?

What habits are keeping you from achieving your goals?

I encourage you to be really honest with yourself here...

  • Are you always running late?
  • Do you forget to return phone calls within 24 hours?
  • Do you stay up late and never get enough sleep?
  • Do you often break promises to your friends and family?
  • Do you resist planning out your day?
  • Do you spend money you don’t have?
  • Do you avoid putting important tasks and events in your calendar?
  • Do you drink alcohol more than once a week – and do you have more than two drinks per day?

Imagine the Result of You Changing Habits

  • What would your life be like if you ate healthy meals, exercised and got enough sleep?
  • What if you saved your money, stopped using credit cards, and paid cash for everything?
  • What if you stopped procrastinating, overcame your fears, and began networking with people in your field?
  • What if you created a detailed annual plan for success – then chunked it down into monthly, weekly, and daily plans to ensure you stayed on track to achieving your goals?
  • What if you taught yourself how to meditate to reduce stress and promote mental clarity?

Would your life be different if you changed your habits? I bet it would!

The 2 Steps to Changing Habits

My suggested action step for you is to write down some productive habits you could visualize, then adopt in your life. Step two is to 'act as if' you were living these new habits right now!

To help you get moving toward creating more successful habits right away, I'd like to recommend that you develop four new success habits each year, one for each quarter.

Once you determine the new habit you're ready to adopt, next you'll want to create a method that will support your new habit.

Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • You could write it down on a card that you keep with you and read several times a day.
  • You could make it a part of your daily visualization.
  • You could also enlist the help of an accountability partner who has habits they also want to change, or work with a personal coach who can keep you on track.

For more inspiration to create your new habits, check out these 5 habits of successful people.

Make a 100% Commitment to You New Habit

It's important to make a 100% commitment to your new habit, so be specific about the steps that you're willing to take in order to drop an old habit and adopt a new one. Don't be vague about how you will change your habits. Spell it out for yourself so you can put yourself in situations that will motivate you to act upon your new habit.

Just developing four good habits a year will dramatically shift your life to be more in line with achieving your vision. And the more focused you are, the easier your other, not-so-good habits will be to replace. Your perspective will shift and you’ll see more clearly how your old habits just aren't serving you anymore.

Make the decision. Make the commitment. Then watch your new, positive life unfold!

I want to leave you with a bit of homework to complete after you’re done reading. Write down the four habits that you want to develop over the next year. Make a 100% commitment to each of your new habits and watch great things happen.

Leave a comment below and tell me which new habit you have in mind to develop first.

Changing habits in 2017 starts with a fresh set of goals using my 12-Month Success Planner. I designed this planner to help you plan exactly how to tackle daily challenges and achieve your goals. Use it to get a jump on the new year.

6 Daily Habits of Gratitude That Will Attract More Abundance and Joy into Your Life

Daily habits of gratitude and appreciation are one of the highest emotional states you can experience. When you cultivate gratitude, you’re able to feel true joy and contentment, no matter what you have or don’t have in your life.

gratitude-rock

"Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough." - Oprah Winfrey

The Law of Attraction states that like attracts like, when you’re grateful for what you already have, you will naturally attract more for which you can be grateful.

However, many people find that it requires great diligence to cultivate a persistent attitude of appreciation. That’s because we’ve been culturally conditioned to focus on what we don’t have, rather than appreciating what we’ve already received or achieved.

To help you combat this conditioning, here are 6 simple tips on how to make gratitude - one of the most important habits of successful people - a natural daily habit, so you can attract more joy and abundance into your life all year long:

Discover how you can use affirmations to practice and create daily habits of gratitude with this free affirmations guide.

1. Take 7 minutes each morning to write down everything you appreciate in life

Starting your day this way primes you to be receptive and grateful for everything your day will bring. It also helps you cultivate an air of positivity that makes you naturally more attractive to other positive people – and inspires them to want to help you achieve your goals.

2. Make a conscious effort to appreciate at least 3 people every day

By letting people know how much you appreciate them, you increase their own sense of appreciation and self-worth and encourage them to pay this positive energy forward to other people.

While most people enjoy receiving verbal appreciation, written notes are also nice because they can be saved and re-read. (For ideas on expressing appreciation, grab your copy of The Success Principles and review Principle 53: Practice Uncommon Appreciation.)

3. Play the appreciation game

Set a specific time each day to consciously appreciate everything you encounter. An ideal time to do this is on your way to or from work. Appreciate the people you pass, the road you walk on, the cars that let you merge into a different lane, the street signs that make it easy for you to know where you’re going, the rain that’s nourishing the plants and trees, and so on.

Look for the good in all situations – even those you would normally view as negative. As the saying goes, “Every cloud has a silver lining.” For example, when my wife was in a car accident a few years ago, she could have chosen to berate herself or question her judgment. Instead, she focused on her gratitude for suffering only minor injuries and for the help she received from other drivers.

4.  Carry a physical token of gratitude in your pocket, such as a heart-shaped stone, crystal, or some other small item

A physical reminder can bring you back to your daily habit practice of gratitude when your mind has drifted elsewhere. As you reach into your pocket throughout the day and feel the token, use it as a reminder to stop, breathe and take a moment to fully experience the emotion of gratitude. The more conscious effort you put into seeking it out, the easier it will be to find it – and the more powerful your experience will be.

5. Remember to appreciate the smallest blessings

The best way to activate your gratitude is by acknowledging the gifts most people take for granted. If you have food in your refrigerator, clothes in your closet and a roof over your head, you are better off than 75 percent of the world’s population.

If you eat three meals a day, you are far better off than the 1 billion people on the planet who eat once a day at most.

Do you have a phone?  How about a car that allows you to travel to work or to explore the country? Is your family healthy? Do you have a computer and Internet access to stay in touch with the world, get access to education, and perform work for which you are paid? Do you have clean water to drink?

Celebrate these simple blessings. These daily conveniences are gifts that most people in the world do not enjoy.

6. Appreciate yourself

Finally, don’t forget to appreciate your OWN positive qualities and accomplishments. In addition to celebrating your big successes, acknowledge your small daily successes too. We all need acknowledgment, but the most important acknowledgment is that which we give ourselves.

It may not feel natural at first to focus on appreciating what you already have, but by faithfully practicing the daily habits of gratitude outlined in this article, you’ll begin to change your conditioning.

To kick-start your daily gratitude practice, take a few moments to share at least three things for which you’re grateful for in the comments. Even the smallest act of gratitude will have a positive impact on your life.

I look forward to reading what you share!
