7 Ways to Boost Your Business Just by Asking

One of life’s fundamental truths states, “Ask and you shall receive.”

It’s simple, but it is so powerful…As adults, we seem to lose our ability to ask. But, here’s what you need to understand: The world responds to those who ask. So let’s start using that in your favor! Here are 7 big ways to boost your business using the power of asking that will help you become more profitable.

If you want to learn other ways that you can change your life, click the link and get the first two chapters of my book The Success Principles.

1. Boost Your Business by Asking for Information

To win potential new clients, you first need to know what their current challenges are, what they want to accomplish, and how they plan to do it.

Ask questions, starting with the words who, why, what, where, when and how, to obtain all the information you need. This is called the discovery process. Repeat this process until you have explored this topic as fully as you need to. So practice asking simple, direct questions. Be attentive. Listen well, and learn to read between the lines.

2. Boost Your Profits Asking for Business

Here’s an amazing statistic: After doing a complete presentation about the benefits of their product or service, more than 60% of the time salespeople never ask for the order.

If you want business, you must always ask.

Don’t waffle, or talk around it, or even worse, wait for your prospect to ask you. The point is, just ask. Also, make sure your closing question is designed to produce a “Yes” or “No” answer, unlike your earlier questions in the discovery process, where all you really want is more information.

3. Boost Your Business by Asking for Written Endorsements

Well-written, results-oriented testimonials from highly respected people are powerful.

Here’s what’s fascinating—most people in business don’t do this. That gives you a great opportunity to jump ahead of your competition. All you need to do is ask.

The best time to ask for a testimonial is any time you’ve made your customer really happy. Under these circumstances, people will be glad to praise your efforts. And if you have your smart phone with you, you can record their testimonial right then and there,

4. Boost Your Business by Asking for Top-Quality Referrals

Just about everyone in business knows the importance of referrals. However, the reality is in our experience, only one out of ten small businesses or large companies has a system for gathering referrals.

As all top businesspeople know, asking for qualified referrals is an important part of an overall marketing strategy. It’s a habit that will dramatically increase your income. Like any other habit, it requires that you do it often, and then eventually it will become easier as you do it more often.

5. Boost Your Business by Asking for More Business

This strategy might seem simple but it’s often forgotten.

Many people lose thousands of dollars in sales every year because they have nothing more to offer after the initial sale. Look for other products or services to add to your portfolio. Also, develop a system to determine when your clients will require more of your own product or service.

Remember that business grinds to a halt when you stop asking. When you consistently ask for more business, you rapidly gain momentum.

6. Boost Your Business by Asking to Renegotiate

Regular business activities include negotiation and the opportunity to renegotiate. Many people get stuck because they aren’t very good at this, but it’s another form of asking that can save you a lot of time and money.

All sorts of contracts can be re-negotiated simply by asking. As long as you do it ethically and in the spirit of win-win, you can enjoy a lot of flexibility. Nothing is ever cast in stone. If your situation requires change, ask for it.

7. Boost Your Business by Asking for Feedback

This is another important component of asking that is often overlooked. How do you really know if your product or service is meeting the needs of your clients and customers?

Ask them!

Set up regular customer surveys that ask good questions, and include the tough questions. You could even consider a monthly focus group where you can meet your customers face-to-face.

If you supervise a team of people or run a large organization, ask the people you work with for ideas.

No matter what type of industry you work in, you’re surrounded by people who can give you valuable feedback. All you need to do is ask.

The 5 Secrets to Successful Asking

The first stumbling block for most people is knowing how to ask. Here are five tips to improve the way you ask, so you achieve results:

1. Ask Clearly

Vague or fuzzy questions confuse listeners, making it difficult for them to provide the information or help you desire.

Be precise in your asking. Think clearly about your request, and take time to prepare. Use a notepad to pick words that have the greatest impact. Words are powerful, so choose them carefully. For example, if you throw the “How am I doing?” question out without specifics, it may take time for the other person to understand what you’re talking about.

Instead, try “How is my attitude toward customers? Do you see room for improvement? Where?”

2. Ask With Confidence

People who ask confidently get more than those who are hesitant and uncertain. When you’ve figured out what you want to ask for, do it with certainty, boldness, and confidence. Practice in the mirror if you have to, or write out your question in advance.

Try to have an open mind and heart when receiving a response. (It’s normal and okay to feel intimidated by the experience, but don’t show it.)

Be prepared to hear the unexpected or unwanted. Don’t get defensive if you hear something you don’t like or that makes you uncomfortable. It’s good to get a little uneasy once in a while upon the observations or insights of others.

They will inspire you to stop, reflect, and take steps to make a shift for the better.

3. Ask Consistently

Top producers know that they can’t quit if they ask once and don’t get a good response.

In prospecting, for example, there are usually four or five “no’s” before you get a “yes.” If the approach you’re using doesn’t seem to be working, try a different way of asking and keep asking until you find the answers you want.

For example, if you find a co-worker is reluctant to offer an opinion when you seek feedback about your performance on an important team project, you can ask another team member who is more receptive to the question, or rephrase how you are asking the question and try again. Because people don’t normally go around asking others for opinions on how well they are doing, it’s not a question typically heard.

So be prepared to ask over and over again before you hear a clear—useful—answer.

4. Ask Creatively

In this age of global competition, your asking may get lost in the crowd, unheard by the decision-makers you hope to reach. The way around this is to ask in an unusual way. Use your creativity to dream up a high-impact presentation.

Bear in mind that asking someone to stop and evaluate you can seem awkward or time-consuming. Show respect for them first and find the ideal time to ask the question.

Here’s one way to engage the insights of a superior: “I highly value your opinion and honest perspective, and would love to know what you think I could be doing differently on a daily basis that would make your life easier and make our clients happier.”

5. Ask Sincerely

When you really need help, people will respond. Sincerity means dropping the image facade and being willing to be vulnerable. Tell it the way it is, lumps and all. Don’t worry if your presentation isn’t perfect; ask from your heart. Keep it simple and people will open up to you.

Like speaking a different language, asking takes continual practice until it becomes a regular, reflexive habit.

The sooner you build your Ask Muscle, the sooner you’ll see results you’ve been waiting and searching for.

Remember that asking does not relate only to work-related goals and tasks.

Bring this practice home with you to enrich your relationships with your family members, and your friends. You’ll be surprised and delighted at what you discover about yourself in this process – and at the greater results and satisfaction you’ll gain in all areas of your life.

Who Can You Get Feedback From Right Now?

Keeping these 7 strategies to increase your business by asking in mind, I want to leave you with a bit of homework to complete after you’re done reading this article.

  1. Write down 3 areas and 3 people that you can get feedback from.
  2. Then write down what you will ask them for feedback about, and exactly how you plan to ask them.
  3. Ask them!

Are You a Member of the “Ain’t it Awful” Club?

Let’s discuss one of the only clubs in the world that no one should ever want to be a part of, and that is the “Ain’t it Awful” Club.

The “Ain’t it Awful” Club is populated by negative, judgmental, and pessimistic people who only focus on how bad things are and how it’s always other people who are responsible for their unhappiness and lack of success.

“You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” – Jim Rohn

They tend to be blamers, complainers, and excuse makers. They constantly blame others for everything that doesn’t work in their lives. They blame the government, the latest wave of immigrants, their bosses, their employees, their coworkers, and their spouses, parents, and children for why they don’t have what they want in life.

They are also complainers. They complain about their job, the traffic, their neighbors, the economy, the media, the schools, today’s kids, the weather, their faulty equipment, and on and on.

They are also perennial excuse makers. Instead of getting things done, they make excuses for everything. It is never their fault. The printer was late, the traffic was terrible, they didn’t have enough time, they were underfunded, everyone else screwed up, the lack of clear instructions, and so on.

Nothing is ever their fault.

Take the success principles free 10-Day Transformation course and get out of the “Ain’t it Awful Club!” Learn more here.

The problem with blaming others

The problem with this kind of thinking is that instead of results, excellence, achievement, and success, you only end up with reasons why you didn’t create the desired result – for yourself or for your employer.

You may get a lot of agreement from other people. You may get to temporarily feel better, but what you don’t get is what you set out to produce – greater happiness, fulfillment, prosperity and abundance, and the achievement of your dreams and objectives.

Stop blaming others and take 100% responsibility instead

It’s critical to stop blaming others and replace complaining and excuse making with 100% responsibility thinking.

First, realize you are creating your current reality with your thoughts and your images.

One of the great positive affirmations to write down and put where you will see it every day is: “If it is meant to be, it is up to me!”

Learn to Ask Yourself Different Questions

You also have to start asking a different set of questions. Instead of, “Why can’t I?” or, “Why didn’t I achieve that result I wanted?” use positive affirmations and ask…“How can I achieve it?”

When something is not working the way you want, you can ask yourself any of these questions:

  • “How am I creating or allowing this to happen?”
  • “What am I doing that is working that I need to do more of, and what I am I doing that is not working that I need to do less of?”
  • “Am I working too much?”
  • “Am I talking too much and not listening enough?”
  • “Am I not asking enough questions?”
  • “Am I not inspecting other people’s work until the last minute and therefore, getting sloppy results?”
  • “Am I drinking too much alcohol, not getting enough sleep, gossiping too much?”
  • “What am I pretending not to know?”
  • “What yellow alerts that things are not right or not on track am I ignoring because it is uncomfortable to have to deal with them?”
  • “What actions are needed here?”
  • “If I don’t know or am not sure what to do, who can I ask for help, advice, or support?”
  • “When will I take action on the needed actions?”

Are you surrounded by negative people?

Finally, let’s look at what you should if you find yourself surrounded by members of the Ain’t It Awful Club…

Whether it’s at work, at the local bar, in your school, your sports team, or at home, the first thing is not to join into the negativity.

Don’t participate in the negative blaming, complaining, and excuse making. You can attempt to change the topic to what actions need to be taken to change things for the better, but if that doesn’t work, it is best to vacate the area and go about working on your goals and objectives.

Free Yourself From Negative People

Make a list of everyone you spend time with on a regular basis— your family members, coworkers, neighbors, friends, and so on. When you’ve completed your list, go back and put a minus (-) sign next to those people who are negative and toxic, and a plus (+) sign next to those who are positive and nurturing.

Next, make a decision to stop spending time with those people with a minus sign next to their name. If that is impossible (and remember, nothing is impossible; it is always a choice), then severely decrease the amount of time you spend with them.

You have to free yourself from the negative influence of others.

Are there people in your life who are always complaining and blaming others for their circumstances? Are there people who are always judging others, spreading negative gossip, and talking about how bad it is? Stop spending time with them as well.

Dedicate Yourself to Success

If you are going to be successful, you have to start hanging out with the successful people. Ask them to share their success strategies with you. Then try them on and see if they fit for you.

5 Steps to Develop Maximum Self-Confidence

If you are going to be successful in creating the life of your dreams, you have to have self-confidence and believe that you are capable of making it happen.

How do you develop self-confidence like this?

You have to believe you have the right stuff, and that you are able to pull it off. Self-confidence is a deep-seated belief that you have whatever it takes. You have the abilities, inner resources, talents, and skills to create your desired results especially with the help of affirmations

Here are 5 tips that can help you develop maximum self-confidence.

Take the success principles free 10-Day Transformation course and develop maximum self-confidence. Learn more here.

1. Make the Choice to Believe in Yourself

That’s right, believing in yourself is a choice.

It is an attitude you develop over time. Although it helps if you had positive and supportive parents, the fact is that most of us had run-of-the-mill parents who inadvertently passed on to us the same limiting beliefs and negative conditioning they grew up with.

To be successful, you have to remember, the past is the past and there is no payoff for blaming your parents for your current level of self-confidence. It’s your responsibility to take charge of your own self-concept and your beliefs.

You must choose to believe that you can do anything you set your mind to, because the reality is, you can.

2. Use Positive Self-Talk and Positive Visualizations to Persuade Yourself

The latest brain research indicates that with enough positive self-talk and positive visualization combined with proper training, coaching and practice, anyone can learn to do almost anything.

If you choose to believe in yourself and act as if anything is possible, then you will do the things that are necessary to bring about the result.

On the other hand, if you believe that it is impossible, you will not do what is necessary, and you will not produce the result. Either way, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

3. Give Up the Words “I Can’t”

If you are going to develop maximum levels of self-confidence and success, you need to give up the phrase “I can’t” and all of its cousins, such as “I wish I were able to.”

The words “I can’t” disempower you.

They actually make you physically weaker when you say them. Your brain is designed to solve any problem and reach any goal that you give it, and the words you think and say affect your brain and body.

Let me give you an example:

When you were a toddler, there was no stopping you. You thought you could climb up on anything. No barrier was too big for you to attempt to overcome.

But little by little, your sense of invincibility was conditioned out of you by the feedback you received from your family, friends, and teachers, and by the decisions you made in response to that, until you no longer believed you could.

To undo your past conditioning and move towards a future of confidence and success, you must take responsibility for removing the words “I can’t” from your vocabulary, and replacing them with the words “I can” and “I will.”

4. Ignore What Others Think of You

If having others believing in you and your dream were a requirement for success, most of us would never accomplish anything.

You need to base your decisions about what you want to do on YOUR goals and desires–not the goals, desires, opinions, and judgments of your parents, friends, spouse, children, or co-workers.

Quit worrying about what other people think about you and follow your heart.

In fact, most of the time, nobody’s thinking about you at all! They are too busy worrying about their own lives, and if they are thinking about you, they are wondering what you are thinking about them.

Meanwhile, all that time you’re wasting worrying about what other people think about your ideas, your goals, your clothes, your hair, and your home, could be better spent focusing on doing the things that will actually get your closer to achieving your goals.

5. Constantly Acknowledge Your Positive Past

Most people in our culture remember their failures more than their successes.

One reason for this is the “leave ‘em alone — pounce” approach to parenting, teaching, and management that is so prevalent in our culture.

When you were a young child, your parents left you alone when you were playing and being cooperative, and then pounced on you when you made too much noise, were a nuisance, or got into trouble.

There was almost always more emotional intensity around your errors, mistakes, and failures than there was around your successes.

And because the brain more easily remembers events that were accompanied by strong emotions, most people underestimate and underappreciate the number of successes they’ve had, compared to the number of failures they’ve had.

The best way to counteract this phenomenon is to consciously focus on and celebrate your successes. Research has shown over and over again that the more you acknowledge your past successes, the more confident you become in taking on and successfully accomplishing new ones.

Remembering and acknowledging that you have had successes in the past, will give you the self-confidence that you can have more successes in the future.

Create a Victory Log for Yourself

Keeping these 5 strategies in mind, I want you to create a victory log.

A victory log is a list of all your daily successes. You can keep your list in a notebook, your iPad, your smartphone, or on your computer, but the point is to keep a running list that you can add to each day.

Begin by writing down your successes from yesterday and those from today, and keep the list going in order to log these victories into your long-term memory. As simple as this exercise is, it is extremely powerful in building your maximum confidence.

To hold yourself accountable, leave a comment below with the first 5 items in your victory log. I’ll follow up with you in the comments to make sure you’re staying on track.

Develop Maximum Self-Confidence

Imagine exuding self-confidence in any situation, asking for what you want, believing anything is possible… and, taking more risks. Now imagine you have already achieved any goal you desire. What would it feel like? How would you be thinking?

This simple imagination exercise is something you can do right now to take you faster to the actual manifestation of that experience.

That’s because when you feel good about yourself, you begin to attract the people and events that empower you to achieve the exact success you imagined.

How to Develop a Millionaire Mindset Using Positive Affirmations

Did you know that all millionaires think a little bit differently? Over time, they have developed a mindset for success and are able to create more wealth in their lives. Developing this millionaire mindset is important because if you want to be rich, you have to learn how to think like someone who is already rich.a millionaire mindset secrets demonstrated by an expensive mansion

Without a millionaire mindset, you will remain stuck in a lower or middle-income reality. But, once you have developed a wealth mindset, you’ll start to do the things you need to do to create more wealth in YOUR life.

Discovering Your Financial Set Point

We all have a financial set point. A financial set point is like the thermostat in your house that is set to a certain temperature:

  • Too hot, and the air conditioner comes on.
  • Too cold, and the heater comes on.

This system keeps you within a degree or two of where you set the thermostat.

Your inner financial set point works the same way, keeping you in your financial comfort zone until you reset your financial thermostat.

If you don’t work on developing a millionaire mindset by retraining or reprogramming your subconscious mind, your subconscious negative attitudes and limiting money beliefs will keep you stuck where you are.

The following metaphor will help you understand this more clearly:

Imagine you have 100 horses. Imagine they are harnessed in such a way that 15 horses are pulling in one direction, and 85 horses are pulling in the other direction.

The 15 horses are your conscious mind, your conscious intentions, and financial goals. The 85 horses are your unconscious mind – your unconscious programmed beliefs and attitudes about money.

Clearly, the 85 horses will overpower the 15 every time, and this is the same with your mind. You have to get the unconscious mind pulling in the direction you want to go.

Otherwise, you’ll always stay stuck.

If you want to learn other ways that you can change your life, get an ebook version of the first two chapters of my book The Success Principles.

How to Develop a Millionaire Mindset

So let’s look at how you can learn the secret of the millionaire mind—what steps do you need to take, and how often, until those secrets become your reality?

First, you have to identify and release your limiting beliefs around money.

These are things like:

  • Money doesn’t grow on trees.
  • It’s selfish to want a lot of money.
  • You have to have money to make money.
  • You have to work too hard to make a lot of money.
  • Money is the root of all evil.
  • You can’t buy happiness.
  • The more money you have, the more problems you have.
  • Wealth brings pain and misery.
  • I don’t have what it takes to make a lot of money.
  • I can make money, but I can’t hold onto it.

You must banish these thoughts. You can do this through positive affirmations.

Repeat These Affirmations Instead

You can do that by repeating written affirmations out loud or silently to yourself twice a day for 5-10 minutes each time.

Or you can listen to recorded affirmations on CDs or on mp3 files while your hands are busy but your mind is free.

Repeat affirmations like these:

Every day I practice the success principles that are based on universal laws.

I have everything I need to create anything I want.

I am now using my core genius to create unlimited prosperity.

I now have enough money to buy anything I need or want.

I see opportunities for enriching others and myself everywhere I look.

I have the ability to accumulate people, resources, and capital to support all my goals.

I consistently take the actions I need to take to increase my wealth.

I constantly find abundance and prosperity everywhere I look.

I deserve to be a millionaire, and I am comfortable asking for what I want and need.

You also want to create and practice prosperity affirmations affirming both your income and your lifestyle.

Some affirmations for success and prosperity are:

I am so happy and grateful that I now have a $200,000 a year income.

I am so happy and grateful that I am a millionaire.

I am so happy and grateful that I now spend my days traveling all over the world solving global challenges through impact investing.

I’m so happy and grateful that I am now feeling safe and secure in the knowledge that we have enough money for our kids’ college education.

Take a few minutes twice a day – when you first wake up, and right before you go to bed. Repeat each income or lifestyle affirmation one at a time, and then close your eyes after each one and then visualize it as if it has already come true.

Fill in the Details

Fill in all the details of where you would be, who else is there, any sounds you would be hearing including what is being said, and most importantly feeling the feelings you would feel if you had already achieved it.

Practice Acting As If You Were a Millionaire

Finally, practice the principle of “Acting As If.”

Start right now acting how you would act if you were already a millionaire or multimillionaire.

How would you walk and talk, how would you hold your body? What would your attitude be? How would you interact with your family, friends, coworkers, clients, and customers? And then start acting that way today.

One of the most powerful exercises I often do in my live seminars and training is to have people stand up and mill around interacting with people for ten minutes as if they were already millionaires.

At the end of the exercise, I ask people if they found that they were different…

Everyone always reports that they were more confident, more outgoing, happier, more enthusiastic and energetic.

Yet they really hadn’t become millionaires except in their minds. Start acting as if you are already a millionaire or multimillionaire, and the energy of that will help you attract the people, the resources, and the opportunities to actually create that in your life.

How Much Money Will You Be Making Within the Next Year?

Pull out your checkbook and write a check made out to yourself for the amount of money you want to be making within the next year. Sign and date the check, and place it somewhere where you will see it every day. Use it as a daily reminder of where you want to be, and do whatever work is necessary to reach that goal.

Leave a comment below and share one thing you’re going to do to ensure you reach the financial goal you’ve set for yourself within the next year.

How to Navigate Your Inner GPS to Find Your Purpose in Life

What if I told you that you have your own guidance system within you that can help you get from where you are in life to where you want to go?

It’s called your inner GPS.

I’m sure the first question you have is, “What is my inner GPS?”

Your inner GPS is similar to the GPS system you use in your car or on your phone. It tells you how to get from point A to point B.

When you get in your car and are heading to a specific destination, what is the first thing you input into your GPS? First, it finds your current location. Once it’s determined where you are, it gives you directions to where you are heading.

For the system to work, it simply needs to know your beginning location and your end destination. The navigation system figures out the rest by the use of an onboard computer that receives signals from multiple satellites and calculates your exact position. Then it plots a perfect course for you.

All you have to do from that point on is follow the instructions it gives you to reach your destination.

Click here to get free access to more success strategies like these.

Success in Life Works Like a GPS

Success in life works the same way:

All you have to do is decide where you want to go by clarifying your vision, then lock in your destination through goal setting, affirmations, and visualization, and then start taking the actions that will move you in the right direction.

With every picture you visualize, you’re “inputting” the destination you want to get to.

Every time you express a preference for something, you are expressing an intention.

A table by the window, front row seats at a conference, first-class tickets, a room with an ocean view, or a loving relationship.

All these images and thoughts are sending requests to the universe.

If you stay out of its way—meaning you don’t interrupt the process with a stream of negative thoughts, doubts, and fears, your inner GPS will keep unfolding the next steps along your route as you continue to move forward.

In other words, once you clarify and then stay focused on your vision, the exact steps will keep appearing along the way in the form of internal guidance, creating ideas, and new opportunities.

Be Clear and Focused About What You Want

Once you are clear about what you want and keep your mind constantly focused on it, the how will keep showing up—sometimes just when you need it and not a moment earlier.

You were born with an inner guidance system that tells you when you are on or off course by the amount of joy you are experiencing. The things that bring you the greatest joy are in alignment with your purpose and will get you to where you want to go.

When you present your goals to the universe with all its powerful technology, you will be surprised and dazzled by what it delivers. This is where the magic and miracles truly happen.

Where is Your Inner GPS Taking You?

Take some time to think honestly and openly about where you currently are in your life.

What is your financial status? How are your relationships going? How is your health? And so on…

Next, think about where you would like to be.

If your life were perfect right now, what would it look like? What kind of job would you have and where would you be living? By continually doing this exercise, you’ll send powerful triggers to your subconscious mind to help you get there.
